introduction to OIE module- Day 4

Introduction to Overseas Immersion Experience (OIE) module!

Our first OIE module in the room 705 with the LSCT (Life Science & Chemical Tech) year one students. Lesson starts at 9am sharp and all of us were punctual on that day. The teacher covered various chapters of doing business in China. Various chapters include:-
  • Investment Climate
  • Attitudes towards foreign investments such as joint ventures
  • Business entities that comprises form of business (sole proprietor, partnership and company)
  • Banking and Finance
  • Labour relations & working conditions that leads to labour demand and supply
  • Business culture and customs
As the lesson started at 9am sharp, some of the LSCT students still linger to the class like as if nothing crops up. One or two students was fine. But the lecturer was quite pissed off when a large group of students came in late and lingers slowly. The LSCT lecturer decided to impose a penalty of 50 RMB whoever comes late.

waiting for the teacher and rest of the students ?

Doing business in China is somehow similar to doing business in Singapore. We have the forms of business in sole proprietor, partnership and company which they need to register first before setting up a business.

The lesson was fairly understandable as it gave us a wider depth of doing business in China. Everyone listened attentively while the lecturer was talking with confident. The lesson ended at 11.30am. Instead of having lunch outside my school, I chose to return to my dormitory to rest for an hour with my roommate.

break time break time! :)

We were fairly exhausted albeit it's the 1st lesson of the day. Due to the very bad weather condition that shot up to about 34 degrees celcius. Not only that, the next lesson i.e PM started at 1.30pm. As for Project Management module, we did the AON drawings till 4pm. The drawings were easy to understand and i kept practising it as there will be test on that topic.
After which, we went back to the dormitory to rest. We could not tolerate the harsh weather as the temperature is much back in Singapore. Some of them that ate lunch did not feel like eating dinner. Diyanah, Eudora and I went to try the Halal Muslim Food that was right behind our dorm. It's only a 5 minutes walk to the place.

see what i mean by huge portion?

see this again? appetizing enough?

P/s: For those interested to eat in the Halal Muslim Food when you come here, please try to share with your friend/family. The portion is huge that three of us could not even finished half of the food. Not that the foods were bland or too salty, it's just that the portion they served are huge. Remember to eat with someone else wherever you wish to try the food. As for the local people, they do not mind finishing up the huge portion as they get used to it ever since young. They need the energy even though they tend to eat alot. Even so, they are very healthy people.
After the fulfilling dinner, we went back straight to our dormitory as HOMEWORK awaits us! As there were many activities lined up in weekends, I do not want to do last minute work.
Reflection: Doing business in China is similar to Singapore's way of doing business. Both countries includes forms of business such as sole proprietor, partnership and company. To set up any forms of business, they have to register the business first.
Anybody will get onto his/her nerves when there's a certain point in time they could not take it anymore. As what the LSCT students did, it was unforgivable. Luckily it was the first day of OIE module. We need to have discipline in ourselves as our parents will not be there for us all the time. If we could not wake up on time, we should make an effort to put an alarm in our cellphone so that we would not be late for school or work.

Singaporeans should be thankful that the weather condition is tolerable compared to China. Well, obviously they have four different seasons which Singapore lacks in that. The highest temperature that Singapore can get is around 32 degrees celcius. Nothing compared to China, which is 38 degrees celcius. It can get pretty hot that I realised most of the men in the streets loved to be half naked or wear their shirt in half. It can get unsightly but that's how their lifestyles.

It can get pretty difficult to find halal food in China. Lucky enough, there's two halal foodstall nearby my school. Other than that, there's even vegetarian foodstall. The local foods are indeed appetizing and some dishes really reminded me of home.
Overall, we have to be disciplined in ourselves and do not let others wait for you. We have to set a good example as a Ngee Ann polytechnic student and not tarnish the school reputation.
